I have a crossbreed shep/husky mix I named Baybee. She is going thru a horrible bad time altely & I cant figure out why. She talks to me when I least expect it but nothing relavent to whats going on in her wee little head. I speak to her & ask her but its like talking to a rock.

She just is not behaving lately. She is destroying most of my xmas things. Things that I have had around for last 5 years she has been here. She is stealing things from my closets & off my counters. If anyone wants to give this a try I would appreciate it. Here is a link to her picture:

Hey, I gave it a try, here's how it went!

Hello Baybee, is now a good time to talk? Who are you?

Oh, sorry about that, my name is Amy, your owner was wondering if I could ask you a few questions for her, Is that okay with you?: Sure, go ahead

Thank you. Now, would you mind sharing with me what your favorite treat is? Lol, I’m getting chicken or some type of meat. I see her in the kitchen and somebody feeding her.

Do you have a favorite place to sleep? I see a blue dog bed, is this correct? It looks square. I see her laying all spralled out across it.

Okay, thank you Baybee for sharing those with me! Now, I hear you’ve been behaving a little differently lately, and getting into trouble… Do you mind telling me maybe a little about that and the reason? Well, lately I’ve been bored, and everyone seems to be so busy. I have a lot of energy built up, and nobody seems to have much time to give me enough attention that I’d like. So I’ve been causing trouble.

Well thank you Baybee for telling me! Would you be happier if they gave you more attention and spent more time with you? If they played and maybe taught you a  few things to keep you busy? Yes, I’d like that!

Have you ever had a kong toy before? He’s unsure

It’s a toy that you can stuff food in and you try to get it out.. Do you know what I’m talking about? Oh yeah, those. Yeah…

Would you be happier if you got at least one of those a day? Oh yes, I love those!

Well thank you Baybee, I’ll let your human know and hopefully she’ll work something out! Thanks once again, it was a pleasure talking with you! / Thank you Amy, for speaking with me! / Yep

Well, here’s how it went! Hopefully it was of some help. Have you tried clicker training? All my animals LOVE clicker training, and it tires their mind keeping them busy and a job to do. I think it might help. Please, let me know how I did and how it goes! Thanks

Thanks for trying! You arent the first person she has fibbed to.  :D

She doesnt have a blue bed nor has she ever had a kong. I know she is bored since my son went to college & my walking abilities are limited. She is bored no matter what I try to do with her.

Her behavior seems to be getitng worse & worse. She doesnt respond to clicker training since the sound scares her. Most all sounds scare her. I assume here its due to her earlier abuse before I adopted her.

She has pulled a few fast ones on me too. I am just exasperated at this time. She wont even allow me to do reiki on her. Hopefully its just a phase.

Ah, well sorry I couldn't help by talking with her lol. I'm gonna have to have a talk with her for fibbing lol. But as a trainer, maybe I can help.

1st, have you tried the kongs? They work wonders on keeping the mind busy. Start of easy at first putting things in there that she can get out easily, then as she gets better you can start freezing them. It will keep her quite busy most likely. You can also feed her some of her meals by doing this making her work for her food.

Another great thing is a treat ball. Just put small treats, or even dry dog food in it and again you can feed her some of her meals this way too if you feed her dry dog food. It works wonders, my dogs love both and it keeps them busy for a while.

Do you walk her or give her a job to do? I was watching this show on TV, and it deals with animal behaviour, each problem he has them walk the dog. And sometiems he gets a little back pack thing and fills it with water bottles so it's heavier and it makes them feel like they have a job to do.

As for clicker training... Have you tried muffling the sound of the clicker? Or trying to have another person stand across the room and click or even in another room? As she gets used to the sound they can move closer. You can also try a click of a pen, or even just a tounge click. Most dogs seem to love clicker training. Plus, it really builds their confidence and everything.

Again, hopefully I could help at least a little, and if you need any help / questions or anything feel free to ask! Let me know how it goes I'd like to hear. Thanks

Thanks! Last nite i did buy her  a kong with some "liver" filling to spray into it. That lasted all of 3 mins! LOL Will try the ball. She is very unreceptive with training except for my hands signs. She has like doggie ADD and I would bet anxiety attacks. She cant sit still for more then 10 secs. When teaching her "stay" it took forever because she has to be right on me at all times. I have had her 5 yrs and she was hardly any trouble. I think my return to work in January, after a long sickness, made her nuts & she developed seperation anxiety. Any suggestions for that?

Glad to hear you tried out the kong! That stuff does go pretty quick lol. I like to mix penut butter with their food, or the liver paste with their food and then stick it in there and freeze it. It will last a lot longer lol. I have like... 5 or 6 kongs I think. lol you'd think that'd be plenty but with 4 dogs lol it's not.

Seperation Anxiety.. well I haven't dealt a whole lot with this, so I don't know how well my suggestions will work. But they could be worth a try. 1st thing, have you tried telling her where you are going, and when you'll be back? Along with other important info she might like to know? It could help at least a little. Next, maybe you could try telling her you'll be right back, walk out the door and wait a min. then return. But when you go back inside, don't make a big deal or fuss, just be calm and go about your business and after a few min. then praise her and stuff. This way she doesn't get excited and can't wait for you to get home so much. Keep do this, and add up the duration of time slowly. Varry the time you leave too, example: 1 min. , 3 min. 1 min. 5 min. 2 min. 10 min. lol you get the picture. Then you can keep adding up the time. I've heard of this being done before, so it might be worth a try, but could also take a lot of time. Another thing you could try is buying a few more kongs or treat balls, freeze them over night, and then hide them in the morning (start easy at first till she gets the idea). While you are gone she'll be busy finding the kongs and/or treat balls then spending time trying to get the stuff out that it will hopefully keep her mind nice and busy. You could also hide a few treats through out the house. It gives her something to do. lol, they need to sell those kongs in bulk bags! They can be expensive I know, so I understand if you don't want to buy more. But it is a suggestion you can try. Another thing they sell at petsmart that is a little less expensive is the bones with the beef or penut butter stuffed inside. It takes them a while to get that out too, plus they enjoy chewing on the bone. Okay, I think that's all I have for this right now. I am going to look up more information on it and if I find anything that might be of help, I'll let you know!!! Let me know how it goes! And if you have any more questions I'll see what I can do. I love to help :).

Hey again, I found some more info on Seperation anxiety though it says about what I've said only a little different. It's in a book called: Breaking Bad Habits in Dogs by Colin Tennant. It has a lot on Seperation anxiety along with lots of other solutions to other behaviour problems. Maybe check the library or petsmart and read up on what it says in that section. It starts on page 68 and the solution starts on page 72. Let me know if you find the book and are able to read up on it. If you can't, then let me know and I can type it up for you. But like I said, it's kind of long. Good luck!

Thanks much! She likes the Kong but LOVES the stuffed xmas toy I bought her. Last nite she left all my stuff alone! Yes I have dine the route of telling her who, what , where , when & how. Sometimes I think she is so stressed out she doesnt listen! LOL

I am hoping just to get her busier. That should do the trick. Maybe a few more kong & she seems to love stuffed toys. Not the rubber or plastic types!

Oh yeah, forgot about the stuffed toys lol. I haven't tried them out yet. I should get my dogs one, it might strike them more interest in them lol. Glad to hear you had a little success with keeping her busy! Good idea, and keep me updated. I'd love to hear how things are going! Thanks
