Hello to everyone! I am from South Africa and live in Cape Town. I am glad I found this forum. I have always been close to animals. They make our life a richer experience and we can learn from them.

A few days ago I went to buy Marta Williams’ book, ‘Learning their Language’..... At this stage I feel too much of a beginner to practice on anybody else’s animals. I do not know if what I am getting from an animal at a distance is true or just something made up by my own mind.

Hi Lidi.

The hesitation you describe is what every new communicator feels.  I would highly encourage you to just jump in and give it a shot.  Talking to animals that we don't know is so much easier than talking to those that we do because we are just too close to them to know if what we are getting is valid.  We already know what their personality is like, we know what their favorite toys are, their likes and dislikes, what their environment looks like.... These are the things that help us know that the intangible stuff we are getting is valid.  If the owner can validate these, then there's a good chance we're on the right track.

I would suggest you start using the techniques taught in Marta's book and just start practicing.  You have a wonderful and supportive place to do it here, and the only way to get better is to practice. (I need to take my own advice.  I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time for communications.  I need to restructure my days to fit that in.)  And the most important thing is, you need to trust what you get. Write it down as you're getting it and don't question it.  Just write it down.

So glad you're here.  Our animals really do understand us on some level.  I have a much harder time talking to my own cat like I do the furlets on this board, but I do know she understands on some level, most of the time.

Aren't animals great?  :D
