It looks like this forum needs a pick-me-up. Anyone for a little pawetry? ;-p
No experience necessarry! For beginners and non-beginners alike. Not a contest! Doesn't even need to rhyme. It can even be Haiku. Whatever! Just anything poetry-ish relating to our animal brothers and sisters
on this earth. Could be something you made up, could be something you came across on the web (if from another author, please be sure to list the author's name, if applicable). Can be cute, sad, sweet, funny, anything. Okay, get ready...get set...GO! :)

NOTE: If your poem's formatting gets all screwed up, I find after pasting (if you're copying and pasting from the web) that highlighting it and then selecting the left-align or center-align button above straightens it out.

I guess I'll start it off to get some momentum going :)
A Dog's Soul

Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad,
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgment carefully
Is hidden from our sight.
A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.
And when accused unjustly for
Himself, he cannot speak,
Rebuked, he finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.
He'll love, tho' he is unloved,
And he'll serve tho' badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he's abused.
Altho' his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding Soul!

And here's another one...

When God had made the earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals,
The fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He'd finished,
Not one was quite the same,
God said, "I'll walk this earth of mine,
And give each one a name."

And so He traveled far and wide,
And everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him,
Until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth,
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, "Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end,
I've turned my own name back to front,
And call you DOG, my friend."

Great idea, Greg. Yes, I have been so busy, the forum has just not found its way to my agenda. I do need to get a newsletter out soon, and will mention this thread. Meanwhile, here's a poem I thought nice.

by Evelyn Colbath

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked into my warm new bed,
I would like to open my baggage,
Lest I forget
There is so much to carry -
So much to forget.

Hmm, Yes, here it is, right on the top -
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear & Shame
As I look on these things I have tried so hard to leave-
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never re-pack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
